Invigorating Face Mask

My niece Elizabeth Fuller who writes the blog www.aloversanthology.com did a post on a honey, cinnamon and nutmeg face mask. So honestly I stole this idea from her!!! I tried it out this morning and loved it. Here are the ingredients and instructions.

Honey

Cinnamon

Nutmeg

2 Tablespoons of Honey
1 Teaspoon cinnamon
1 Teaspoon nutmeg

Mix all together in a bowel and it becomes a dark brown paste.
Apply all over the surface of your face. Leave it on for about 30-40 minutes. Then rinse off with warm water. I had to use a warm cloth to remove all of it.  Then I splashed cold water on my face to close my pores.

Here are some benefits of this mask.

Honey has antibacterial properties and has been used t help your skin heal from wounds. When applied to acne spots, honey may stop the swelling by killing any infection.

Cinnamon is an antiseptic. It will reduce he bacteria on the surface of your skin. It also stimulates and revitalizes the skin b drawing blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the surface of your skin leaving a glow.

Nutmeg is an anti fungal, antibacterial along with an anti-inflammatory. Nutmeg can reduce the infection and swelling around your clogged pores resulting in smaller spots and smoother scars.

I love this mask. My face looks redder than it really is,(I need a new camara), but it does draw the blood to the surface and you look somewhat like you have been out in the sun. It is supposed to be really good for people that are trying to clear up blemishes. Give it a try and see what you think.

Until next time,

McDonalds and Cleanses!!

This week I am doing a detox cleanse with Raw Girls and I wanted to share a little about it. But I ran across this article on McDonalds hamburgers and wanted to post it also. I don't eat McDonalds but I know that there must be millions of people that do, because everytime you drive past one the parking lot is full. So here is a little information you can pass on to anyone that might still be eating from McDonalds. In fact they would really benefit from this amazing detox cleanse!!

Hamburger chef Jamie Oliver has just won a battle against one of the largest fast food chains in the world. After Oliver showed how McDonalds hamburgers are made, the franchise announced it will chang...e its recipe.

According to Oliver, the fatty parts of beef are “washed” in ammonium hydroxide and used in the filling of the burger. Before this process, according to the presenter, the food is deemed unfit for human consumption.

According to the chef and presenter, Jamie Oliver, who has undertaken a war against the fast food industry: “Basically, we’re taking a product that would be sold in the cheapest way for dogs, and after this process, is being given to human beings.”

Besides the low quality of the meat, the ammonium hydroxide is harmful to health. Oliver calls it “the pink slime process.”

“Why would any sensible human being put meat filled with ammonia in the mouths of their children?” asked the chef, who wages a war against the fast food industry.

In one of his initiatives, Oliver demonstrates to children how nuggets are made. After selecting the best parts of the chicken, the remains (fat, skin and internal organs) are processed for these fried foods.

The company, Arcos Dorados, the franchise manager in Latin America, said such a procedure is not practiced in the region. The same applies to the product in Ireland and the UK, where they use meat from local suppliers.

In the United States, Burger King and Taco Bell had already abandoned the use of ammonia in their products. The food industry uses ammonium hydroxide as an anti-microbial agent in meats, which has allowed McDonalds to use otherwise “inedible meat.”

Even more disturbing is that because ammonium hydroxide is considered part of the “component in a production procedure” by the USDA, consumers may not know when the chemical is in their food.
On the official website of McDonald’s, the company claims that their meat is cheap because, while serving many people every day, they are able to buy from their suppliers at a lower price, and offer the best quality products.

In addition, the franchise denied that the decision to change the recipe is related to Jamie Oliver’s campaign. On the site, McDonald’s has admitted that they have abandoned the beef filler from its burger patties.

With that being said, here is an amazing Cleanse from Raw Girls. I am so excited about doing this for the next 5 days.

Eating Healthy in New Orleans

This weekend I flew to New Orleans with my husband for some business mixed with pleasure. On Sunday I went to the Saints game and his company rented out a luxury sky box, so we had a great view from the top!! My challenge for this trip was, what to eat while I am in New Orleans. The home of Shrimp Po Boys, Sausage gumbo and that authentic French bread. I actually spent several days trying to figure out what to take to eat, and thinking about what I was going to eat in restaurants while I am there..
I knew I had breakfast covered because I brought my magic bullit blender, along with:

Coconut water, Hemp Protein powder, coconut oil, maca root, and diatomatious earth.

But my first morning did not start off quite as I had planned. A group of us were meeting for breakfast and I didn't have time to make my smoothie, so I thought I would just get some fruit at the restaurant. I was with a group of 6 and we walked about 2 blocks to get to the restaurant, and there was a line out the door. We kept on moving. So the next suggestion was since we were watching the Saints game from a sky box, everyone decided (except me) to eat up in the sky box. I was not too happy about that idea at first, because all I could imagine was typical fried bar food!!! But I was pleasantly surprised when we finally got there, they actually had fruit and salads along with the fried foods and chips and dip!!
I  wanted to maintain my healthy eating habits while I was in New Orleans so I spent some time last week planning out my eating options. I brought as many things from home that I could to help keep me on track.(all the ingredients in the picture above, vitamins, chlorella tablets, marine phytoplankton, and my own teas.) Those things plus sheer will and determination are definitely keeping me on track. I don't do all of this because I am hard on myself or militant about what I eat. I do it because I LOVE  feeling great all the time, especially when I am away from home. It's so easy to make good food choices when I am at home because I am in control of it all. But when I travel and have to eat out, I have to give up some of that control, and I just do the best I can!!

View from the sky box!

Having girl time with my friend Anna at the game!

Not only do I travel with all of that, but I also bring as a separate suitcase full of Real Raw Beauty products and shipping material.

So the next time you are heading out of town and want to eat healthy, just think through the process and plan ahead. It's really pretty easy!! We had a wonderful time at the Saints game and I am looking forward to the rest of the week. We are spending a few more days in New Orleans and then we are headed to Florida!!

Until next time,

Fun Masks!

Okay, so this week I have been totally playing around with homemade masks for your face and hair.
If you follow me on facebook you probably saw the pictures of my avocado honey face mask. But for you readers that haven't seen it, or gotten the recipe. Here it is:

1/2 Avocado
1/4 cup of honey

Mash the avocado and mix with honey. I put mine in a mini food processor to get it good and creamy!

Apply the mask and let it sit on your face for 30 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Your skin is so silky and smooth. I love this mask!

I also made a hair mask out of avocado too. Here are the ingredients:

1 avocado
1 egg white
Olive oil
Wheat germ oil or liquid vitamin E

Smash and cream the avocado, then add your egg white, 3 Tbl of olive oil, if you don't have wheat germ oil or vitamin E oil . If you do, 2 Tbl of olive oil and 1 Tbl of wheat germ or E.
Mix it all together well and apply like shampoo. I really worked the mixture into my hair and let it sit for 45 min. Then just shampoo it out and do your normal routine. My hair felt thicker and looked very shinny.  I really would recommend this to anyone that wants to strengthen and improve the fullness of your hair.

Another good face mask is to use a papaya...

Cut a papaya in half and scrape out the pulp and seeds. Save the inside and eat later. Then cut off a slice and run the fruit over your skin, especially around your eyes and mouth. Let dry for 15-20 min and then rinse off with warm water. The enzymes in the fruit exfoliate, repair sun damage, help diminish age spots and all around brighten your skin. Give it a try, fast, easy and good for your skin!

Last but not least, I did want to let everyone know that the winner of the Radiant A and exfoliator was Shannon Walker.

Here is what Shannon had to say when she found out she won!

Shannon Walker OMG!! thank you and i am so excited to try out the products. I am a huge fan of Real Raw Beauty and have been using the Daily Wash religiously two times a day for over a year now. I was at the Willamette Country Fest and had 5 young people join me at a table and the subject of age came up. The 28 yo woman said that she was going to completely honest with me and guess my age. Boy was she off, she guessed that i was 42...made my day. Then the 3 woman wanted to know if i have had any procedures and wanted to know my secret. Secret is out it is real raw beauty. thanks Jan and to Nancy for introducing me to it.

Thanks to everyone that entered!!

Real Raw Beauty Giveaway!

This week Real Raw Beauty is having a fabulous giveaway! If you go to facebook and type in Real Raw Beauty, you can enter the giveaway to win a bottle of Radiant A from the Real Raw Beauty skin care line, and a Neutrogena hand held exfoliator.
Radiant A is a organic natural replacement for the pharmaceutical chemical version Retin A.

I have written about Radiant A before. But in case you didn't catch that blog posting, here are some of the highlights.

Retin A contains:

Hydroxypropyl Cellulose-This is a food additive added to dairy based foods, fat based deserts, and ton's of other foods. It's used as a building agent , glazing agent, foaming agent, thickener and stabilizer.

Brucine Sulfate- A poisonous whit crystalline alkaloid derived from seeds of vomica and closely related plants. Used to denature alcohol. Can be fatal if ingested.

Butyland Hydroxytoluene- A chemical used to preserve fats in foods. It is one hydrocarbon away from common butane. It's primary use is to prevent foods from becoming rancid.

These are only 3 of the chemicals that one is putting on their skin if they are using Retin A.

Radiant A is made from organic Rosehip oil, which is a source of topical retinoic acid (vitamin A) in a natural bio-identical form.

Radiant A:
Stimulates new cell growth
Regenerates cells
Allows the skin to breathe without clogging the pores
Helps shrink pore size
Preserves skins elasticity
Fights bacteria that causes acne

Radiant A is a proprietary blend of Organic Virgin oils. It not only contains Rosehip oil to stimulate new cell growth and preserve the the skin's elasticity, but it also has other high end organic oils that help to replace the moisture, hydrate and replenish your skin. These oils help with healing many types of scarring also.
When you combine Radiant A with the other Real Raw Beauty products, it is a perfect recipe for beautiful, silky smooth radiant skin! You will see the results almost immediately!

Because Radiant A promotes new cell growth, the dead skin cells have to be removed through exfoliation.

So go to https://www.facebook.com/#!/RealRawBeauty and enter the giveaway to win your bottle of Radiant A and the Neutrogena exfoliator!

Factory or Fresh?

I don't normally put anything disturbing on my blog, but I saw this posted on Facebook today and after I watched this video, I thought everyone should see it. The visual is so much more powerful than the written word. I truly am speechless....

I really can't even verbalize a comment about that video, but I  would never want to leave you with such a depressing sad state of affairs. I feel like the best way to bring change is by focusing on, and promoting what you want, not what you don't want.
And what I want in my life is nutritional healthy high vibrational food. Not what is seen in this video. I want food that is beautiful to look at and delicious in taste.
I try to buy most of my fresh food from local farmers. I want to know where my food comes from. I go to the farmers market every Saturday to get all of my produce. Also, I love the fact that at our Whole Foods it has a whole wall dedicated to local farmers. They have a picture of the farmer and what products are sold in Whole Foods by that farmer.

Here are pictures of the type of food that I eat. As I said about the video, pictures speak louder than words.

I believe that we all have the ability to make choices for our bodies and what we are putting in them.

What are your food choices?

Until next time,
Jan

Stuck in Dallas

Wow, what a week. I was on a flight this week that gave me a lay over in Dallas, TX. What was supposed to be a 45 minute layover turned out to be a 12 hour layover. According to everyone that got there before me, there was a major storm that blew threw with 65 mile an hour winds. They cancelled the majority of the out bound flights after 8:30 that night. As soon as I landed I got an email from the airline telling me that my flight had been cancelled. When I got off the airplane I talked to a customer service rep and they told me that I had been re booked on the 7:00am flight the next morning. I immediately started calling hotels. Not only was I calling, but my husband was calling too, even though he wasn't with me. Between the two of us we must have called 25 hotels.
No one had a room. Everyone that arrived earlier than me swooped them up.

So here I was in Dallas with no flight, no hotel, and no phone. My phone had died, and the only plug to be found was in the women's bathroom in the baggage claim.

I have never had to stay up all night in an airport. But that night I found out what it was like to be stuck and stay up all night. The airport looked like a war zone. They must have passed out 1000 cots and blankets. People were piled up everywhere. They were laying on cots, chairs and the floor.

I will have to admit that when I looked at my watch and saw that it was almost 3 am I was saying to myself, I can't believe I am actually sitting here.

At this point I wanted to feel sorry for myself. But instead, I just started thinking about all of the people in Hurricane Katrina. I seriously couldn't imagine being in the New Orleans Super Dome on a cot with thousands of people for weeks.
I immediately changed my attitude and began to think of all the things in my life that I was so thankful for. You can't stay in a bad mood when you are giving thanks for the blessings in your life.

But I was so happy to see the sun come up!!! Around 5 I left the concourse that I was in and rode the tram to the concourse my flight was departing from.  I still had 2 more hours. But I could see light at the end of the tunnel. There just happened to be a Starbucks right next door to my gate, and needless to say I was the first in line waiting for it to open. I grabbed a big coffee and went and sat down next to this girl who was going to the same place I was, except she was on standby and I had a confirmed seat. She had been there all night too just like me but she had gone outside around midnight because it was so cold in the terminal and she couldn't get back inside to  her gate until 5 because the security lines closed at midnight and didn't reopen till 5am. Another reason to be thankful. At least I was inside sitting at a gate.

I  brought Marine Phytoplankton and Chlorella tablets in my purse. About every 2 hours I took a handful of tablets and a stopper of Marine Phytoplankton and drank lots of water.  Those 3 things and a change in attitude, definitely helped me make it through the night.

Right before I got on my flight I went into the women's bathroom and there was this beautiful mother with her baby that was around 10-11 months. I struck up a conversation with her and commented on how amazing her baby was for being in an airport all night. She smiled and thanked me and told me that she was just trying to get to Florida, her mom had passed away the day before and they were just trying to get to the funeral.
Whoa.....clearly, that put it all in perspective for me. I absolutely had nothing to complain about.  I walked out of the bathroom, cried and gave thanks.

Hopefully from this experience I have learned even more that we all go through the same things in this life on some level. It's how we handle the situation that determines the outcome. We can either feel sorry for ourselves, complain and blame or we can take responsibility for our own actions and find a way to be happy in the midst of what seems like difficult times. I am truly happy for this experience. It showed me what I was made of.

I finally made it to my destination, happy and tired!!

Until next time,
Jan

Body PH-Why it Matters...

I don't normally blog on any kind of sickness or diseases, but after I read this article, I thought it was worth re posting. I read quite a few sites on Dr Otto Heinrich Warburg 1931 Nobel Prize Winner.
He discovered the real cause of cancer in 1923 and received the Nobel Prize for doing so in 1931.

THE ROOT CAUSE OF CANCER - Noble prize Winner Dr. Otto H Warburg . Dr. Warburg has devoted his life to study the causes of cancer.

"All normal cells have an absolute requirement for oxygen, but cancer cells can live without oxygen - a rule without exception. "Deprive a cell 35% of its oxygen for 48 hours and it may become cancerous." Dr. Warburg has made it clear that the root cause of cancer is oxygen deficiency, which creates an acidic state in the human body. Dr Warburg also discovered that cancer cells are anaerobic (do not breathe oxygen) and cannot survive in the presence of high levels of oxygen, as found in an alkaline state.

Biochemist Otto Heinrich Warburg, one of the twentieth century's leading cell biologists, discovered that the root cause of cancer is too much acidity in the body, meaning that the pH, potential hydrogen, in the body is below the normal level of 7.365, which constitutes an "acidic" state. Warburg investigated the metabolism of tumours and the respiration of cells and discovered that cancer cells maintain and thrive in a lower pH, as low as 6.0, due to lactic acid production and elevated CO2. He firmly believed that there was a direct relationship between pH and oxygen. Higher pH, which is Alkaline, means higher concentration of oxygen molecules, while lower pH, which is acidic, means lower concentrations of oxygen...the same oxygen that is needed to maintain healthy cells.
In 1931 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for this important discovery. Dr Warburg was director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute (now Max Planck Institute) for cell physiology at Berlin. He investigated the metabolism of tumours and the respiration of cells, particularly cancer cells. Below are some direct quotes by Dr Warburg during medical lectures where he was the keynote speaker:

"Cancerous tissues are acidic, whereas healthy tissues are alkaline. Water splits into H+ and OH- ions, if there is an excess of H+, it is acidic; if there is an excess of OH- ions, then it is alkaline.”

In his work The Metabolism of Tumours Warburg demonstrated that all forms of cancer are characterized by two basic conditions: acidosis and hypoxia (lack of oxygen). Lack of oxygen and acidosis are two sides of the same coin: where you have one, you have the other.” "All normal cells have an absolute requirement for oxygen, but cancer cells can live without oxygen - a rule without exception. Deprive a cell 35% of its oxygen for 48 hours and it may become cancerous."

Dr. Warburg

has made it clear that the root cause of cancer is oxygen deficiency, which creates an acidic state in the human body. Dr. Warburg also discovered that cancer cells are anaerobic (do not breathe oxygen) and cannot survive in the presence of high levels of oxygen, as found in an alkaline state.

This article was taken from a site-ganodermareview-

We have so much access to products that help alkaline our bodies and cause our bodies to have a normal PH.

1. Water
2. Marine Phytoplankton
3. Spirulina
4. Chlorella
5. Lemons
6. Leafy Greens
7. Root Vegetables
8. Cucumbers
9. Broccoli
10. Cabbage
11. Green Tea

These are just a few of the many alkaline sources.

Also their is a product, Cell Food that you can add to your water and it will increase the oxygen in your cells.

I am sure that we all want to live healthy happy lives. This is just more great information to help make that happen.  Google Dr Warburg and read more about it.
