McDonalds and Cleanses!!

This week I am doing a detox cleanse with Raw Girls and I wanted to share a little about it. But I ran across this article on McDonalds hamburgers and wanted to post it also. I don't eat McDonalds but I know that there must be millions of people that do, because everytime you drive past one the parking lot is full. So here is a little information you can pass on to anyone that might still be eating from McDonalds. In fact they would really benefit from this amazing detox cleanse!!

Hamburger chef Jamie Oliver has just won a battle against one of the largest fast food chains in the world. After Oliver showed how McDonalds hamburgers are made, the franchise announced it will chang...e its recipe.

According to Oliver, the fatty parts of beef are “washed” in ammonium hydroxide and used in the filling of the burger. Before this process, according to the presenter, the food is deemed unfit for human consumption.

According to the chef and presenter, Jamie Oliver, who has undertaken a war against the fast food industry: “Basically, we’re taking a product that would be sold in the cheapest way for dogs, and after this process, is being given to human beings.”

Besides the low quality of the meat, the ammonium hydroxide is harmful to health. Oliver calls it “the pink slime process.”

“Why would any sensible human being put meat filled with ammonia in the mouths of their children?” asked the chef, who wages a war against the fast food industry.

In one of his initiatives, Oliver demonstrates to children how nuggets are made. After selecting the best parts of the chicken, the remains (fat, skin and internal organs) are processed for these fried foods.

The company, Arcos Dorados, the franchise manager in Latin America, said such a procedure is not practiced in the region. The same applies to the product in Ireland and the UK, where they use meat from local suppliers.

In the United States, Burger King and Taco Bell had already abandoned the use of ammonia in their products. The food industry uses ammonium hydroxide as an anti-microbial agent in meats, which has allowed McDonalds to use otherwise “inedible meat.”

Even more disturbing is that because ammonium hydroxide is considered part of the “component in a production procedure” by the USDA, consumers may not know when the chemical is in their food.
On the official website of McDonald’s, the company claims that their meat is cheap because, while serving many people every day, they are able to buy from their suppliers at a lower price, and offer the best quality products.

In addition, the franchise denied that the decision to change the recipe is related to Jamie Oliver’s campaign. On the site, McDonald’s has admitted that they have abandoned the beef filler from its burger patties.

With that being said, here is an amazing Cleanse from Raw Girls. I am so excited about doing this for the next 5 days.

Eating Healthy in New Orleans

This weekend I flew to New Orleans with my husband for some business mixed with pleasure. On Sunday I went to the Saints game and his company rented out a luxury sky box, so we had a great view from the top!! My challenge for this trip was, what to eat while I am in New Orleans. The home of Shrimp Po Boys, Sausage gumbo and that authentic French bread. I actually spent several days trying to figure out what to take to eat, and thinking about what I was going to eat in restaurants while I am there..
I knew I had breakfast covered because I brought my magic bullit blender, along with:

Coconut water, Hemp Protein powder, coconut oil, maca root, and diatomatious earth.

But my first morning did not start off quite as I had planned. A group of us were meeting for breakfast and I didn't have time to make my smoothie, so I thought I would just get some fruit at the restaurant. I was with a group of 6 and we walked about 2 blocks to get to the restaurant, and there was a line out the door. We kept on moving. So the next suggestion was since we were watching the Saints game from a sky box, everyone decided (except me) to eat up in the sky box. I was not too happy about that idea at first, because all I could imagine was typical fried bar food!!! But I was pleasantly surprised when we finally got there, they actually had fruit and salads along with the fried foods and chips and dip!!
I  wanted to maintain my healthy eating habits while I was in New Orleans so I spent some time last week planning out my eating options. I brought as many things from home that I could to help keep me on track.(all the ingredients in the picture above, vitamins, chlorella tablets, marine phytoplankton, and my own teas.) Those things plus sheer will and determination are definitely keeping me on track. I don't do all of this because I am hard on myself or militant about what I eat. I do it because I LOVE  feeling great all the time, especially when I am away from home. It's so easy to make good food choices when I am at home because I am in control of it all. But when I travel and have to eat out, I have to give up some of that control, and I just do the best I can!!

View from the sky box!

Having girl time with my friend Anna at the game!

Not only do I travel with all of that, but I also bring as a separate suitcase full of Real Raw Beauty products and shipping material.

So the next time you are heading out of town and want to eat healthy, just think through the process and plan ahead. It's really pretty easy!! We had a wonderful time at the Saints game and I am looking forward to the rest of the week. We are spending a few more days in New Orleans and then we are headed to Florida!!

Until next time,
Jan

Fun Masks!

Okay, so this week I have been totally playing around with homemade masks for your face and hair.
If you follow me on facebook you probably saw the pictures of my avocado honey face mask. But for you readers that haven't seen it, or gotten the recipe. Here it is:

1/2 Avocado
1/4 cup of honey

Mash the avocado and mix with honey. I put mine in a mini food processor to get it good and creamy!

Apply the mask and let it sit on your face for 30 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Your skin is so silky and smooth. I love this mask!

I also made a hair mask out of avocado too. Here are the ingredients:

1 avocado
1 egg white
Olive oil
Wheat germ oil or liquid vitamin E

Smash and cream the avocado, then add your egg white, 3 Tbl of olive oil, if you don't have wheat germ oil or vitamin E oil . If you do, 2 Tbl of olive oil and 1 Tbl of wheat germ or E.
Mix it all together well and apply like shampoo. I really worked the mixture into my hair and let it sit for 45 min. Then just shampoo it out and do your normal routine. My hair felt thicker and looked very shinny.  I really would recommend this to anyone that wants to strengthen and improve the fullness of your hair.

Another good face mask is to use a papaya...

Cut a papaya in half and scrape out the pulp and seeds. Save the inside and eat later. Then cut off a slice and run the fruit over your skin, especially around your eyes and mouth. Let dry for 15-20 min and then rinse off with warm water. The enzymes in the fruit exfoliate, repair sun damage, help diminish age spots and all around brighten your skin. Give it a try, fast, easy and good for your skin!

Last but not least, I did want to let everyone know that the winner of the Radiant A and exfoliator was Shannon Walker.

Here is what Shannon had to say when she found out she won!

Shannon Walker OMG!! thank you and i am so excited to try out the products. I am a huge fan of Real Raw Beauty and have been using the Daily Wash religiously two times a day for over a year now. I was at the Willamette Country Fest and had 5 young people join me at a table and the subject of age came up. The 28 yo woman said that she was going to completely honest with me and guess my age. Boy was she off, she guessed that i was 42...made my day. Then the 3 woman wanted to know if i have had any procedures and wanted to know my secret. Secret is out it is real raw beauty. thanks Jan and to Nancy for introducing me to it.

Real Raw Beauty Giveaway!

This week Real Raw Beauty is having a fabulous giveaway! If you go to facebook and type in Real Raw Beauty, you can enter the giveaway to win a bottle of Radiant A from the Real Raw Beauty skin care line, and a Neutrogena hand held exfoliator.
Radiant A is a organic natural replacement for the pharmaceutical chemical version Retin A.

I have written about Radiant A before. But in case you didn't catch that blog posting, here are some of the highlights.

Retin A contains:

Hydroxypropyl Cellulose-This is a food additive added to dairy based foods, fat based deserts, and ton's of other foods. It's used as a building agent , glazing agent, foaming agent, thickener and stabilizer.

Brucine Sulfate- A poisonous whit crystalline alkaloid derived from seeds of vomica and closely related plants. Used to denature alcohol. Can be fatal if ingested.

Butyland Hydroxytoluene- A chemical used to preserve fats in foods. It is one hydrocarbon away from common butane. It's primary use is to prevent foods from becoming rancid.

These are only 3 of the chemicals that one is putting on their skin if they are using Retin A.

Radiant A is made from organic Rosehip oil, which is a source of topical retinoic acid (vitamin A) in a natural bio-identical form.

Radiant A:
Stimulates new cell growth
Regenerates cells
Allows the skin to breathe without clogging the pores
Helps shrink pore size
Preserves skins elasticity
Fights bacteria that causes acne

Radiant A is a proprietary blend of Organic Virgin oils. It not only contains Rosehip oil to stimulate new cell growth and preserve the the skin's elasticity, but it also has other high end organic oils that help to replace the moisture, hydrate and replenish your skin. These oils help with healing many types of scarring also.
When you combine Radiant A with the other Real Raw Beauty products, it is a perfect recipe for beautiful, silky smooth radiant skin! You will see the results almost immediately!

Because Radiant A promotes new cell growth, the dead skin cells have to be removed through exfoliation.
